The NSW War Memorials Register will undergo essential upgrades from 3 July. If you have draft submissions ready, please submit them before 3 July.
This war memorial is an honour roll for the First World War. It is made of an arched timber frame, with metal header lettering and gold script. The Australian flag, the Union Jack, and the Rising Sun emblem are painted on. Carved pillars frame the sides of the board.
When received by RSL NSW in 2019, the board was in fair condition. The bottom date panels and statuette were missing and the bottom inscribed panel was detached from the main board.
Stage 1 of the resortation works has restored lost fixing covers, carvings, and decorative elements to the pilasters; some veneer losses and loose lifting veneer, moulding losses, detached mouldings and plinth associated details; and detached side fixing. The works also stabalised the joints, including full assembly of the plinth, reassemabling of all elements, and dents and minor losses scarfed in with new timber where approriate.
As at November 2021, the board is located in Chatswood awaiting stage 2 of restoration works. It is not accessible by the public.
The origins of this board are unknown. Do you know more about it? Learn how you can contribute to the NSW War Memorials Register.
